55 gallon aquarium questions?
hello, my parents will buy a 55 gallon aquarium for my birthday, I have to ask some questions: Question 1: What I have fish there, how many? Question 2: live plants or fake? Question 3: What fish group sounds better? cold water group: two gold fantails, 2 calico fantails, two black Moors, a comet, shubunkins 2 and a few snails. I had two 30 gallon hang-on filters and a wimp. I would also like a living plant and the rest false. Then I would have a giant ornament in the center. Group 2: 5 male guppies, 2 silverfish, 2 black mollies, 4 platies, 5 Cory Cats, 10 tetras Rasboras neon and 5. I want two snails too. I'll have two filters, a 20-gallon and 1, 30 gallon hang on filter, I also have a bubbler. I'll have the same ornamental plant and set up as the first group. any other suggestions are great thanks: D
I have one or two questions for you. 1) Are you willing to make large quantities of cleaning and water changes? 2) What provides the types of filters that are on the list? 3) What kind of heater is going to get to the second group? I would suggest to add some fish, like angels and bristle nose plecos second group, but that's just me. With a 55 gallon tank options for the amount of fish is a little bigger, you can have some schools from 10 to 15 fish of each Tetras, and are relatively small. If used inch of adult fish per gallon to be reasonably good to go. If it were my tank (I'm restocking my 55 now) I'd go with 6 German Blue rams, 3 Bristlenose Plecos (I have7 there right now, four will be transferred to my 29), 6-8 Bleeding Heart, 10-12 Black Neons, 6-10 Coryadoras (type to be determined below), 6.8 Glowlights, possibly four angels. I would also recommend you get a filter rated for a tank bigger than what you have, and can be a user friendly type. The Rena Filstar 3 is what I'm using right now and isd probably the best type of container I have used. Live plants are the bomb, but if your very new to the hobby or do not have much money for food additives (Iron Flourish, Excel and thrive) could get interesting. That said I know people here that It adds nothing and have large planted tanks, but on the other end are the ground crew of my local club, have CO2 injection 3.4 watts of light gallon and so on. The difference is almost imperceptible, except high-end people have oxygen from plants, and can be seen in the form of bubbles rise plant. It depends on you for this, but I would say a few live plants would not hurt. The tank heating is a necessity for the group second. I recommend to hire a good heater, Tronic, Jaeger, and Hagen Compact Power are all good, the Jaeger is by far one of the best in the market right now. When you get the tank, remember to set it up according to specifications set by the manufacturer of filters and so on. Keep out of direct sunlight, which will that the growth of huge algae. When cycling, where the tank will have to sacrifice a few fish to make sure it goes well, usually recommend things like kites and White Cloud Mountain Minnows or Zebra Danios and they are cheap and plentiful in the extreme. Zebra Danios are using the scientific research now because of the fact you can generate your own bike supplies. When a tank can take up to a month to do it properly, please be sure to do this as it may lead to a large number losses of fish if not done correctly. Remember to support your local fishing club and shop
